Last Monday, a tip was received that narcotics were possibly hidden in the frozen fish. Investigators from the National Enforcement and Interventions Unit and the National Expertise and Operations Unit found the container at a company in Barneveld.

Initially, customs did not detect narcotics in the first scan of the fish shipment. However, since there was no logical explanation for the anomalies on the scan, the fish were manually scanned one by one. This revealed a strange substance in part of the fish shipment. The still frozen fish showing this anomaly were cut open, revealing packages of cocaine hidden inside. In total, it concerned more than 300 kilos.
The company in Barneveld is not known to be involved with the drugs. The police are continuing their investigation. The batch of cocaine was seized and destroyed by customs.
