The municipality received multiple emails, including some containing criminal threats. After police investigation, a suspect was identified. He was arrested on October 27. The suspect is a 25-year-old man from the municipality of Zuidplas. After questioning, he was released and has been summoned to appear in court. The police are continuing their investigation into the threats. Further arrests are not excluded.
Mayor Han Weber: I am pleased to see that the polices work has yielded results with this arrest. It is in all our interests that (local) politicians can perform their duties safely. Threats like these are primarily a threat to our democracy, and thus to everyone who values democracy.
