The police were visibly present throughout the operation to guide the demonstration, maintain public order, and ensure a safe process. Our actions are aimed at initially working to de-escalate. The approach we choose to achieve that goal can vary.
In this case, we see that various activists were deliberately engaged in violating certain laws and regulations. This jeopardizes safety and public order. Such actions are transgressive and can harm the interests of others. We do not tolerate this and will take action against it.
Arrests
The activists began gathering at the demonstration starting at 3:30 PM in the vicinity of Rijnstraat. This demonstration was facilitated by us. Around 6:00 PM, several activists moved towards the Central Station. During this action, the activists were given the opportunity to relocate to the designated demonstration location at Laan van Reagan and Gorbatsjov. The police made several requests for this. The activists gathered in the station hall, on the platform, and some of them entered the tracks. The atmosphere quickly became grim.
The activists who went onto the tracks were arrested, and several activists were also arrested for the WOM. Furthermore, one of the activists insulted the police, and this same activist used violence against the police, resulting in an injury to a police officer. This activist was also arrested. In total, 205 activists were arrested.
Violence Against Police Officers (GTPA)
The police find aggression and violence against their staff or other emergency workers unacceptable. Police officers have a responsible role in society and must be able to perform their work without being hindered. With mutual respect. Aggression or violence, in any form, against staff is not tolerated. The police and justice apply the same approach here: complaints are always recorded, suspects are prioritized by the Public Prosecution Service to be brought before the judge, and a three times higher sentence is demanded against these suspects.
