Around half past six in the evening, a witness at De Schere in Rotterdam saw a suspicious situation: a group of men acting suspiciously with bags. The witness alerted the police. When officers arrived on the street, the suspects immediately ran in different directions. After short chases, three suspects were arrested nearby. Two men fled in a van but were later arrested in The Hague. The five men are aged between 22 and 31 years from places including Rijswijk and Delft. During searches and in various bags, a total of 14,000 euros and one kilo of suspected narcotics were found.

Crime must not pay
The money and suspected narcotics were seized. After further investigation, the drugs will be destroyed. If the money is proven to be criminally obtained, it will be confiscated and ultimately go to the state treasury. Money is the motive behind almost all forms of crime. By seizing and confiscating criminally obtained money, we disrupt the criminal process and make crime less attractive.

Reporting helps
The suspicious situation probably involved a drug deal. Thanks to the alert witnesss report, the police were able to remove the drugs from the streets, confiscate the criminally obtained money, and arrest the involved persons. One report can prevent crime in your neighborhood. Reporting can also be done anonymously.

How to recognize suspicious situations?
Loitering youths who quickly hand something to passersby. Or a car where different people repeatedly sit in the passenger seat of a parked car, take something from the driver, and then get out again. These can be signs of drug dealing. You can find these and many other signals at www.housmisdaaduitjebuurt.nl.
