The victim was cycling with two friends on the Paleisring in Tilburg when his bike chain came off. They stopped to fix the bike when a group of boys approached them. They started shouting and became aggressive. Their aggression was directed only at the boy from Riel. The boy was attacked by three boys from the group.
Kicked and punched
They kicked him and punched him in the face. He also received a knee in his back. The boy was injured. He tried to escape, but the three boys caught up with him. Just at that moment, a police officer passed by. One of the suspects was then arrested, while the other two fled. The boy from Riel filed a report with the police. His two friends were heard as witnesses of the incident. The arrested suspect (16, Goirle) was taken to a police cell. He spent the night in the cell and was questioned by detectives on Saturday during the day.
All three suspects arrested
The other two suspects were later arrested outside of the act. One (16, Goirle) was arrested on Saturday afternoon, and the third suspect (15, Goirle) was arrested on Sunday afternoon. These suspects also provided a statement. They are suspected of committing assault in association. Because the suspects are minors, they gave their statements in the presence of their parents and a lawyer. The boys will have to account for themselves to the court in due course.
