The station was opened by team leader Rahim Sahin and mayor Henk Jan Bolding of the municipality of Het Hogeland by cutting a steel chain. Afterwards, hundreds of residents and other interested parties came to take a look at the new station.
In use since May 22
The brand new police station has been officially in use since Thursday, May 22, and this afternoon the ceremonial opening took place. Team leader Rahim Sahin spoke about the establishment of this station, the process that preceded it, and the layout of the new premises. The wishes of the colleagues who are taking up residence in the brand new building were taken as a starting point. The construction took more than a year.
With the arrival of this police station in Winsum (municipality of Het Hogeland), the Ommelanden-Noord team retains two locations. Together with the station in Delfzijl (municipality of Eemsdelta), this ensures optimal service in the entire working area of the team. The station in Winsum is, like in Delfzijl, a full-fledged police station that is open to visitors – even without an appointment – and where officers start their shifts. There are also several cells, so arrests can be processed here.
Team leader Rahim Sahin is pleased with the new station: “It has become a beautiful place where craftsmanship and connection come together. And where we work together with residents and our partners on safety, connection, and trust.”
Uithuizen remains a police location
In addition to the police stations in Winsum and Delfzijl, we have police posts in Bedum, Leens, Loppersum, and Appingedam. With the arrival and opening of the new station in Winsum, this means that the police location in Uithuizen no longer has a walk-in function. The location remains available as a police post, where you can come by appointment. You can make an appointment with the neighborhood officer via 0900-8844. The changes do not affect the number of police officers on the street or the presence of your neighborhood officer; he or she will remain in the area.
Filing a report
Did you know that in many cases you can easily file a report digitally from home? You can read more about this at www.politie.nl/aangifte. You can schedule a report with the colleagues at our service center via 0900-8844. They are also available 24/7 for other questions and reports that are not urgent. In case of emergency, danger, or catching someone in the act, always call 112!
