The victim was called by so-called bank employees. They told a story about a possible burglary and asked about jewelry and cash. The family did not trust it and contacted the police. It soon became clear it was a scam. When the so-called bank employee came to the victims door, he was arrested as a suspect. He is a minor boy. Shortly after, a second suspect was arrested in the area, a 28-year-old man from Assen. Both suspects are currently in custody.
Scam Tricks
Scam tricks are excuses criminals use to defraud people. The scammers often appear trustworthy. They call, come to the door, or approach people on the street with a convincing story. Then they steal money and other valuable possessions. In some cases, this happens in combination with threats and/or violence. The scammers sometimes also pretend to be meter readers, repairmen, or police officers. Or they say, for example, that they are from the bank or home care.
