Within a short period in October and November, three people in Utrecht were scammed by a fake postal worker. After footage was shown on Bureau Hengeveld and social media, the suspects identity became known. It concerns a 50-year-old woman from Utrecht. She will be interviewed by the detectives shortly.
In all three cases, the suspect came to the door as a fake postal worker with a package for the neighbors. To hand over this package, the victims had to pay a small amount for delivery costs. This was done by card via a self-made payment terminal that the scammer had with her. While the victims entered their PIN, the scammer watched.
After the transactions, the scammer managed to swap the cards with another debit card. With a newly stolen card and code in hand, the scammer then withdrew money at an ATM.
We thank everyone for their cooperation but also warn against this form of fraud.
