At Kleine Markt, the cyclist fell. This gave the officers the opportunity to reach the man. He was stopped and the officers informed him that he would receive a fine for not complying with a stop signal. The officers noticed that the fatbiker was acting quite nervously, so they decided to investigate further. They asked the man, a 40-year-old Vlissinger, if he had anything illegal on him. He then took out a jar of pills, which he said was MDMA, from a plastic bag he was carrying.
Firearm
When the officers asked if he had any other prohibited items, the man sprinted away again. He was closely followed by the two officers. During his flight, the Vlissinger threw away the bag. The officers heard the sound of metal as the bag hit the ground. One officer continued chasing the suspect, while the other picked up the bag and saw that it contained a firearm.
Arrested
In Groenewoud, the pursuing officer managed to stop the man. He was arrested and taken to a police detention center. The man remains in custody and will be allowed to give a statement on Sunday. Besides the firearm and the jar of pills, the suspect also had soft drugs and a knife on him. All prohibited items were confiscated by the officers.
