The police officers followed the car. On Scheeweg in Ritthem, the driver was given a stop signal. The driver did not comply but fled at high speed further into the polder.

Car crashes into tree
The chase started but was quickly and abruptly ended when the car crashed into a tree on a bend. The officers immediately ran to the car to see if they could provide assistance. Inside the car, they found three boys: one aged 12 (front passenger, from the municipality of Terneuzen), one aged 14 (in the cargo area of the car, from the municipality of Borsele), and one aged 15 (also from Borsele). The 15-year-old was driving. The front passenger was injured and taken to the hospital. The boy who had been in the cargo area said he had foot pain but would visit the doctor himself. He was picked up by an acquaintance and may give a statement later.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested and taken to a police detention center. He is still in custody there.

Investigation
The car the boys were in was seized for further investigation. It turned out to have been stolen during the night from a parking lot on Benedenstraat in ’s-Heerenhoek. The owner reported the theft. Besides theft, the young driver is suspected of causing danger or nuisance on the road and driving without a license. He is scheduled to give a statement on Monday regarding the charges against him.
