On Monday afternoon around 5:00 PM, officers received a report of a dispute in a residence on the Mient in The Hague. Upon arrival, multiple people were involved in the dispute. While separating the group, two officers were assaulted. One of them was hit on the hand with a pipe. In the chaos, one of the involved parties was slightly injured and later examined by ambulance personnel.
After the dispute inside was brought under control, commotion arose again outside. Other police units that had arrived on the scene, including the rapid response unit, intervened. During this, an officer was struck in the face.
One officer was examined on site and was able to continue her duty. A second officer was treated in hospital for his injuries.
During the incident, two suspects were arrested for assault. They are a 29-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman, both residing in The Hague. One of the suspects was taken to the hospital for a check-up.
Violence against police
Violence against police officers during and outside working hours is unacceptable, and every incident is one too many. We do not accept crossing that line. For years, the police together with the Public Prosecution Service have enforced strong (communication) policies regarding violence against police officers and other emergency responders. Colleagues who experience violence can count on maximum support from the organization. Police officers de-escalate when possible. But when necessary, we step forward and do not shy away from confrontation; for the safety of emergency responders and citizens.
