The suspect defrauded a 90-year-old victim from Amersfoort. This occurred on March 2. The female victim was called that a police officer would come to her door to collect her belongings. The victim let the suspect in, after which they looked together at the valuable items. These items needed to be secured as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the victim believed the woman’s scam story and also handed over her bank card. Subsequently, withdrawals were made in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, this was not the end of it.
People Defrauded in Amersfoort
In the following days, this suspect defrauded older victims in Amersfoort. The oldest victim was 98 years old, and here too the woman posed as a police officer. Some victims were prevented from being scammed because they asked the suspect if she could identify herself with the police identification card. Of course, the suspect could not do this, after which she quickly left.
Active Nationwide
The suspect can be linked to multiple cases across the country and has defrauded dozens of victims. The suspect turned herself in to the police after she attempted to defraud someone again as a fake officer in Emmen. She was then immediately arrested for attempted fraud. The suspect is still in custody and will be presented in court on Friday.
Prevent Fraud
The police, banks, or other agencies will never ask for your personal information. We will also never come to your door to collect items. If someone claims to be from the police, always ask for their police identification card. Every officer must carry this (physically) with them. If you still do not trust the situation and it is urgent, call 112.
