At approximately 2:15 AM, patrolling officers on Mercuriusweg saw a car driving whose registered owner was wanted. When the officers turned their service vehicle to follow the driver and give a stop signal, the car fled at high speed. The man ignored the stop signal on the police car’s roof and committed multiple traffic violations in his attempt to escape the police. He ran red lights, drove on the bike path, collided with a police car, and ran over the bike of a police biker who threw his bike in front of the car in an attempt to stop the man’s reckless driving. Eventually, officers boxed in the man at Westlandseplein and arrested him, during which he resisted strongly. One of the officers was slightly injured. The suspect was detained for questioning. His car was seized and his driver’s license was confiscated.
