The police began an investigation in September 2024 into possible undesirable behavior at the Blue Harbor, a collection of projects for colleagues with mental overload such as PTSD and burnout. Because incoming signals about this behavior concerned multiple units, Chief Constable Janny Knol instructed the National Team for Internal Investigations (LTIO) to conduct the investigation.
Suspicion of misconduct
In October, the investigation led to a suspicion of misconduct and criminal behavior by an employee of the Police Service Center (PDC), who had previously been active at the Blue Harbor. Recently, a suspicion of misconduct has also arisen against a police officer who worked as a project leader at the Blue Harbor. Both had already been placed on special leave at the start of the investigation.
Regarding the nature of the misconduct – not acting as an official is expected to – the police do not provide further statements.
Report anonymously
The investigation is still ongoing. The investigation team has already spoken with dozens of people in recent months. Because some people may be reluctant to give a statement, the police recently decided that they can report anonymously. This can be done through a so-called secret holder, who, together with the reporter, examines whether a formal statement (in name) can be made under certain conditions. The latter is necessary to include the statement in the investigation.
