Explosives and narcotics found in residence in Heerlen

On Wednesday afternoon, the police assisted the bailiff in an operation at a residence on Corneliuslaan in Heerlen. When narcotics and ammunition were found in the basement, a search of the house was initiated. The police discovered an explosive device. Residents of adjacent apartments were temporarily relocated. No arrests were made.
After an explosive device was found during the search, the police decided to evacuate 12 adjacent apartments while awaiting the explosives expert. The expert determined that it was heavy fireworks that had been tampered with, making it a dangerous explosive. The explosives expert was able to neutralize the explosive. Afterwards, the rest of the house was searched, and nothing else was found. Around 6:15 PM, the residents of the surrounding apartments were allowed to return home.
