At around 5:30 AM, the emergency dispatch center received a report of a collision between a truck and a passenger car. The passenger car collided with the truck and then ended up in a ditch alongside the highway, near the section between Tilburg Centrum and Tilburg Reeshof heading towards Breda. The driver was trapped and was freed by the fire department. A preliminary breathalyzer test indicated the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. He was injured and taken to the hospital.
Second accident
To ensure the safety of emergency services, the right lane was closed with red crosses. Shortly after, another motorist rear-ended a stationary fire truck. Three people were inside the vehicle, all of whom were injured. They were also taken to the hospital.
The A58 remains closed to traffic for the time being due to investigation and cleanup operations.
