The police has the task of ensuring that demonstrations proceed safely and orderly. Our starting point and our task is to guide and protect all demonstrators and bystanders. The police acted by keeping the different groups of demonstrators apart for their own safety during the demonstration. Officers were briefly supported by the riot police in forming a line as a separation between confrontational demonstrators.
During the intervention, an officer was slightly injured and had to be treated in the hospital. A total of six people were arrested for, among other things, possession and throwing of fireworks - public violence - and insulting officers.
How we are allowed to act is determined in a consultation between the municipality, the Public Prosecution Service, and the police. The mayor of Amersfoort is ultimately responsible for public order and safety in the municipality. The deployment is always tailored.
