Nuisance and unrest
The police tracked down a large quantity of counterfeit goods in 2023 after a robbery occurred at this residence. The illegal trade in the residence in Overvecht already caused nuisance to the neighbors due to the high foot traffic of buyers. The robbery also caused social unrest among local residents.
Penalty under coercion
Fortunately, the suspects of the robbery were quickly apprehended. Now it was essential to prevent the nuisance in the neighborhood from returning and that the residence would not become a potential robbery location again. Therefore, the polices investigation team prepared an administrative report with concrete facts about the illegal trade. Consequently, the municipality decided to impose a penalty of 10,000 euros on the occupant to deter them from continuing illegal activities.
Repeated offenses
In May, new signals were received regarding the residence in question. Due to the previous incidents at the property, a comprehensive inspection took place, during which the police, along with the Municipal Administrative Intervention Team, again discovered a large quantity of counterfeit goods. The occupant clearly did not comply with the obligation to cease (illegal) trade. Therefore, the occupant must now pay the amount of 10,000 euros.
Livable neighborhood
Police, municipality, and partners are jointly acting to stop crime-related nuisance in neighborhoods and communities. The focus is on achieving societal effects to keep the neighborhood livable. By working together, we can tackle problems comprehensively, addressing the root cause of the issue rather than just the symptoms.
