Alert Citizens
The arrest of a 19-year-old man on October 29 was partly due to alert citizens informing the neighborhood police officer about suspicious situations in the area. The police received multiple reports about a possible storage location for laughing gas. These signals were investigated by the police given the impact on neighborhood livability. Ultimately, the police found 182 full laughing gas tanks.

Another Arrest
On November 5, 2025, a 26-year-old suspect was arrested in Utrecht on suspicion of narcotics trafficking. This suspect was transporting 35 (full) laughing gas tanks in his car. The police also received a tip that the suspects car served as a storage location for laughing gas. When the suspect was noticed and checked by the police, the laughing gas tanks were discovered.

Both suspects will have to answer to the court at a later date.

Closure of Garage Unit
Additionally, on October 30, 2025, the municipality, in cooperation with the police, closed a garage unit where laughing gas tanks were stored. This was discovered following a tip to the police. This action was part of a joint approach by the police, municipality, Public Prosecution Service, and other agencies combating undermining crime. Together, we work to keep neighborhoods safe and livable.

Why This Is Important
Such joint actions are important to tackle narcotics trafficking. The trade causes much nuisance in neighborhoods, attracts young suspects, and is often accompanied by violence and issues like debt problems. Furthermore, this action shows that crime does not pay. Many investigations start with reports from residents or anonymous tips. Those who think they can act unnoticed are mistaken: sooner or later, you will be caught.

Report Suspicious Situations
The police take reports from citizens seriously. If you see something suspicious in your neighborhood, contact the police via the neighborhood officer or call 0900-8844. Prefer to remain anonymous? You can do so via Crime Stoppers, by phone at 0800-7000 or at meldmisdaadanoniem.nl.
