Last year we received a report that an employee was guilty of theft/misappropriation in service and money laundering. Following the report, a disciplinary investigation was immediately initiated, and the employee in question was suspended.

During the investigation, it was found that the police officer had stolen items that had been seized for a police investigation. Based on the findings of the internal investigation, the management of the North Holland police unit decided to unconditionally dismiss the police officer.

The Safety, Integrity, and Complaints team handled the disciplinary investigation and the internal settlement. A criminal investigation by the National Criminal Investigation Department is still ongoing regarding the individual. Due to the privacy of those involved and the ongoing criminal investigation, no further details can be provided.

Famke van Spaendonk, Head of Operations of the North Holland police unit, explains the disciplinary action: “We do not tolerate these behaviors in our society, let alone in our police organization. Integrity is the foundation of our police work. I regret that we fall short in this situation, but I am glad that we do not look away and address this behavior.”
