During the inspection, a dog trained to detect explosives and hazardous substances was deployed. At a storage box in the visited storage location at Avelingen-Oost, the dog alerted. Various hard drugs and materials and ingredients for producing hard drugs were found in the storage box. The fire department checked whether the substances present posed an immediate danger. This was not the case.
The police, in collaboration with the National Facility for Dismantling (LFO), are investigating the storage location and the items found. The storage box is being cleared. No arrests have been made yet.
Keep crime out of your neighborhood
Help us tackle undermining in your neighborhood. If you see suspicious situations, report it! A house with taped-up windows and condensation and a strange smell may indicate a cannabis cultivation or drug lab. A house where many people come in and out late at night, possibly with large shopping bags, could be a drug lab or dealing location. Be alert to signs of undermining and report! Together we can keep crime out of your neighborhood.
Reporting can be done to the police at 0900-8844. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact Meld Misdaad Anoniem at 0800-7000.
How do I recognize a drug lab?
- In a drug lab, there is a strong smell of chemicals, such as solvents (acetone).
- To prevent it from smelling outside, gaps in unused windows and doors are often sealed, for example with spray foam.
- Extraction systems with carbon filters often vent the air through the roof.
- Drug labs are often located near factories or farms that also smell (manure smell). This makes the smell of the drug lab less noticeable.
What should I do if I discover a drug lab?
- Go immediately outside as soon as you suspect you have discovered a drug lab.
- Ensure your safety. Do not assume you are safe if you do not smell chemicals. There is always a risk of toxic substances, an explosion, or fire.
- Call the police at 112. Do this at a safe distance from the lab.
- You can also call Meld Misdaad Anoniem at 0800 - 7000.
- If the situation is safe, note details such as: license plates, cars, descriptions, and suspicious activities.
