At around 8:00 PM, the police received a report of a violent shoplifting incident at Transvaalplein in Tilburg. When officers arrived, the suspect had fled on foot. After searching the area without success, the officers returned to Transvaalplein. There, they spotted a man matching the suspects description. The officers arrested the man on suspicion of violent shoplifting. He is a 29-year-old man without a known residence or place of stay.

Resistance During Arrest

During the arrest, the man indicated he would spit on the officers. For this reason, a spit mask was placed on the suspect. Attempts were made to place him in a police car, but he did not cooperate. Eventually, the officers succeeded in placing him in the police car and transported him to the police station.

In the cell, the mans handcuffs were removed. Immediately after removal, the man aggressively approached one of the officers. He also removed his spit mask and spat on the officer. The suspect remains in custody and is being interrogated.

Violence Against Police Officers (GTPA) is Unacceptable

Aggression and violence against police and emergency workers is unacceptable. Police officers have a responsible role in society and must be able to perform their duties without hindrance. Aggression or violence, in any form, against staff is not tolerated. This applies to everyone working for the police: officers, detectives, dispatch center staff, front desk employees, and support staff. Violence against people with a public task is always a priority for the police. For more information, see this page.
