On Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 7:00 PM, a surveillance unit was sent to the harbor of Arnemuiden. There had been a report that a pleasure yacht had been involved in a collision and that the skipper was drunk.
Arrest
Upon arrival, the officers indeed found a yacht with a drunken skipper. The 58-year-old man from Middelburg had to blow into a breathalyzer, and the first indication showed that he had indeed drunk too much. He was arrested under Article 27 of the Shipping Traffic Act and taken to the station despite his resistance. There was no damage detected as far as the officers could determine.
Way too much
At the station, the breath analysis revealed that the man had nearly five times the allowed amount of alcohol in his breath. He was detained for the night and will receive a fine and a temporary boating ban.
