Since 2021, the police have received multiple anonymous reports. The importance of these anonymous tips has become increasingly clear over the years. The drug team and detectives from the Veluwe Vallei Noord police have therefore started mapping criminal activities involving the man. This provided very valuable information. It appeared that the man is likely a drug dealer, active in a criminal network, and had others working for him. Eventually, a search was conducted at his home. During this search, various items were found, including different types of drugs, weapons, ammunition, and various types of fireworks. Everything was seized. The man has since been released but will hear from the Public Prosecution Service later about the next steps.
Anonymous tips are valuable!
Is reporting worthwhile? Is my suspicion correct? I won’t snitch on anyone… These are just some of the barriers people feel when considering reporting to the police or Report Crime Anonymously regarding criminal activities.
Community officer Ilco de Ruijter emphasizes again how important the existence of Report Crime Anonymously is. “More and more citizens use Report Crime Anonymously to submit their information or tip completely anonymously; and in this case, it was successful! We had this suspect in our sights for several years, but the reports from citizens were a decisive factor. It’s great how we worked together as a team and achieved this success! With the arrest of this suspect, we also disrupt ‘his network’. This also shows that we as police are taking a stand against these criminal activities.”
Undermining crime can also occur in your neighborhood!
The investigation conducted by the police led through anonymous reports (MMA) to this suspect. Undermining crime is a type of crime where criminals use the ‘upper world’ (legal businesses, services, and people) as a cover for underworld activities. Think of drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, fraud, and illegal cannabis cultivation, which blurs the line between legal and illegal. Criminals often use this as a cover to continue their activities. There is mixing involved because to carry out illegal activities in the underworld, criminals use services from citizens and companies in the upper world.
The mayor of Barneveld, Jacco van der Tak, confirms that the importance of Report Crime Anonymously can be significant. “Reporting works! This arrest proves it. These kinds of activities can also occur in your neighborhood. Therefore, report suspicious circumstances. Organized crime requires an organized response from the municipality, police, and Public Prosecution Service. Your contribution is also valuable.”
Passing on information
This investigation once again showed how important it is to use Report Crime Anonymously. It also clearly shows that the reports received there are actually used by the police to carry out actions and interventions.
Do you know something about criminal activities? Have you seen something or recognized someone in images? That is valuable information that can lead to perpetrators being tracked down and crime being stopped. But when the perpetrator knows you, you may not feel safe to report this information with your name. That is why there is Report Crime Anonymously, abbreviated as M.
M. is the independent reporting point where you can anonymously provide information about crime. You can report to M. about, for example, the production and trade of drugs, violent crimes, robberies, arson, weapons or human trafficking. But you can also report information about fraud and corruption to M. Every piece of information, no matter how small, can make a difference. M. ensures that the information reaches the police and other investigative agencies, while you remain anonymous as the reporter. You can make contact via the forms below (on politie.nl there are buttons that can be clicked).
