On Sunday morning around 2:15 AM, emergency services received multiple reports of a fire and/or explosion in a house on Swingstraat. When the police and other emergency services arrived, it was confirmed that a fire had started inside the house. A 49-year-old man was seriously injured and was urgently transported to a hospital. The fire department prevented the fire from spreading to nearby homes. Residents of those homes had to temporarily leave their houses but were able to return later. Several specialized police units arrived and initiated a further investigation, which will continue today.
Mayor Hein van der Loo responded to last nights events: “The impact of this fire is significant. We mourn the seriously injured resident. The police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine what happened. This afternoon, I consulted with the police and Public Prosecution Service and will take measures today to keep the neighborhood safe.”
