Nearly seventy cars, ten motorcycles, and various fatbikes, scooters, and steps were checked on Sunday between 2:30 PM and 10:00 PM. During the control, cars were searched and individuals were frisked to find any weapons, drugs, and other suspicious items that could indicate criminal activity. One person had 1400 euros in cash without a logical explanation for why they had such a large amount or how they obtained it. Another person handed over an identity document that is strongly suspected to be fake or altered. This will be further examined by a KMAR specialist. In addition to three knives, an axe was also found in the trunk of a car.
Traffic safety was also monitored. Multiple fines were issued for using a phone while driving, running a red light, driving without a license, without a helmet, without a seatbelt, or without a license plate. Four individuals were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Residents first
The main way to tackle undermining is through reports from citizens. They know their neighborhood best and often know when something is wrong in their area. Most undermining crime is tackled thanks to tips from citizens. Therefore, there was also attention for local residents on Sunday. At the event, there was a tuk-tuk with delicious coffee and officers providing explanations about undermining and how to recognize it in your neighborhood. Of course, local residents could also come with other questions or just for a chat.
