Integrated Control Focused on Undermining
The control was a collaboration between various departments of the police, Tax Authority, customs, KMar, and the Dutch Labor Inspectorate. Although the focus was mainly on undermining signals, the partners also identified other important issues and acted on them. This includes traffic safety and gathering information that may assist in ongoing or future criminal investigations.
Results of the Control
In total, the police checked 87 vehicles. They issued 65 reports, including 13 for driving under the influence (12x drugs, 1x alcohol and drugs). The Tax Authority seized 18 vehicles. They also collected over €87,000 in outstanding taxes. Finally, a lot of important information was recorded that may be relevant for ongoing or future (undermining) investigations.
Importance of Controls
Undermining crime is the mixing of the underworld and the upper world. Criminals exploit citizens, entrepreneurs, services, institutions, and companies for their own gain and interest. Traffic controls are an important part of being able to signal and act on possible forms of undermining.
Criminals use vehicles and drivers, for example, to transport drugs or raw materials for drugs. A signal of suspicious transport is, for example, loading or unloading at an unusual location or at an unusual time.
