Officers saw a car around 2:00 PM on the A4 that they wanted to stop. The driver ignored the stop signal and fled. He escaped via the A20 and the Vlaardingen exit into the Broekpolder. On Watersportweg, he nearly hit a pedestrian at high speed. An officer who witnessed this first fired two warning shots into the air, and when the motorist still did not stop, a shot was fired at the tire.

On Marathonweg, the motorist collided with a car. The occupants were checked by an ambulance but did not need hospital treatment. At Plein 1940, the motorist caused another collision with a different car. On Van Hogendorplaan/Rotterdamseweg, the suspects car crashed. The suspect, a 57-year-old man from Leiden, was arrested. The police are investigating why the man decided to flee.
