Around 8:00 PM, the police received a report from a person who possibly had a fake officer on the phone. An appointment was made that around 8:30 PM, an officer would come to the door to collect and secure valuable items. The colleagues immediately took action. They hid near the residence, waiting for the fraudsters.
Two Arrests
The fake officers then arrived at the victims door around 10:00 PM. The police were able to arrest them immediately. They are a 30-year-old man from Amsterdam and a 29-year-old man from Almere. The police are investigating whether the pair may be involved in multiple frauds.
Prevent Becoming a Victim!
Fake officers are fraudsters who pose as someone from the police. The perpetrators often call (usually older) people and impersonate an officer. The fake (neighborhood) officers ask questions about valuable items, money, or bank cards and offer to keep those items safe. Subsequently, people do indeed come to the door. They authenticate themselves with a fake badge as detectives. Sometimes they wear part of a (fake) uniform.
Hang up immediately if you are called by someone who claims to be from the police and asks about valuables such as jewelry or bank details. Call the police at 0900-8844.
If the fraudster says someone is coming to the door, or if someone is at the door? Call the police immediately at 112!
