This has emerged from the investigation so far. What exactly happened and who was involved is still unclear. A large-scale investigation team (TGO) is investigating the crime.

Identity
The identity of the victim was already known earlier. The next of kin have now also been informed of the death. It concerns a 47-year-old man without a permanent residence. He is known to the police.

Investigation
Now that other scenarios can probably be ruled out, the investigation team is focusing on clarifying what has happened, where the victim has been, and who he has been in contact with. On Wednesday afternoon, September 3, around 2:20 PM, he was found on the banks of the Maas. What happened before that?

Information
A witness call has already been made. The investigation team once again asks witnesses to come forward. The area where the deceased was found is a well-known walking and recreation area, not only for locals but also for tourists. It is possible that there are people who walked or cycled in or around the Groeneweg in Venlo on Tuesday evening, the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Wednesday morning and/or afternoon, and noticed something unusual.

Even if the information is minimal or possibly less relevant, it can be important for the investigation team. Please report this! This can be done via 0900-8844. Anonymously via 0800-7000 is also possible. A confidential conversation with the police is always possible. This can be indicated during the first contact.
