Officers saw the scooter driving on the Burgermeester Prinsensingel. They noticed that the scooter had no lights and the rider was not wearing a helmet. The police officers signaled the scooter rider to stop. The rider and his passenger did not comply, prompting the police to initiate a chase. After a short pursuit, the scooter fell over. The boys took off running, and the officers initiated another chase, this time on foot. After several hundred meters, the officers apprehended the boys.
During the chase, the scooter fell, and the boys sustained injuries. An ambulance was called, and the boys were checked by the paramedics. A hospital visit was not necessary.
A few fines richer
The two underage boys from Oud Gastel and Kruisland were arrested and taken to the police station. There, they received fines from the officers for ignoring the stop signal, not wearing a helmet, driving without a license, and not having an identity card. The scooter was placed on a dynamometer to measure its speed. And what turned out: the scooter was also speeding. The vehicle must be re-registered and may only return to the road afterward.
