Both men are also suspected of violating the Opium Act and for possessing narcotics. One of them is also suspected of violating the Weapons and Ammunition Act. Several data carriers have been seized from both.
The Cybercrime Team is actively searching for criminals engaged in online fraud. With all their might, the detectives are trying to find these criminals, especially the key figures, because ultimately everyone leaves traces on the internet. Thanks to good detective work in these two ongoing investigations, two suspects have now been arrested.
Phishing
In phishing, criminals are only after one thing: to cowardly gather as much information as possible to ultimately defraud money or goods from sometimes vulnerable individuals. The fraudsters fish for information that you try to keep secret. They do this in many different ways, such as sending links to fake websites of banks, porn sites, and large retail companies, where you unsuspectingly leave your information, which is then misused by the criminals.
Digital Reporting Center
Recently, the police have started a method under the name Digital Reporting Center where, with every report of cybercrime, the police go to the victim to provide support. Think of bank helpdesk fraud, telephone helpdesk fraud, assistance request fraud, investment fraud, (bank) phishing, and revenge porn/sextortion. Victims are often very upset or embarrassed. In this way, we can help with filing a report, but we can also secure evidence for the investigation.
One thing should be clear: You should not be ashamed. This can happen to anyone. And that is why the Cybercrime Team is doing everything possible to catch these fraudsters.
