In the early morning of Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the residents of a house on Vinkenweg were startled from their sleep when multiple masked men broke into the house around 03:45 AM. At that moment, the couple was asleep, and their son was also present in the house. The robbers tied up the victims, during which the 78-year-old resident and his son were beaten by the robbers. The father was injured in the process. The robbers then fled.
The police immediately launched an investigation into this brutal robbery. Attention for the case was also requested in the investigation programs Opsporing Verzocht and Team West. The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Leiden who has since been convicted as an accomplice to 36 months in prison, of which 10 are conditional.
Thanks to a DNA match on a tie-wrap used to bind one of the victims, the identity of the now-arrested suspect came to light. With permission from the public prosecutor, he was arrested on Tuesday, October 7, by an arrest team. The man is in custody for questioning. He will be presented to the examining magistrate on Friday.
