The girl ran away from her parental home on Saturday afternoon. She spent the following hours on the street. Around 6:00 PM, she approached the man while he was walking his dog. Due to the cold, he offered her shelter in his home and gave her food and drink.
Later that evening, the police were notified of the girls disappearance. During the night, an Amber Alert was issued. The 69-year-old man from Rotterdam is suspected of removing a minor from parental custody. It is illegal to shelter a minor without parental consent.
Extensive investigation, including the girls initial statements, shows no indications of other crimes having occurred.
