Officers went to the residence after receiving information that fireworks were being stored there. They found bags full of fireworks - over 100 pieces including cobras. The fireworks were taken by a specialized company and destroyed.
Extra Attention for Fireworks
The police and the municipality of Schouwen-Duivenland announced last week that they will jointly act against youths causing nuisance, including by setting off (illegal) fireworks or possessing fireworks. Parents and guardians of youths possibly involved in nuisance will receive a warning letter. This letter points out their responsibility and the possible consequences of their childrens behavior.
Life-Threatening
Storing fireworks in a residence, garage, sheds, and similar places creates unsafe situations for the neighborhood. Residents risk that the fireworks might explode causing damage and even injuries.
Possession or storage of illegal fireworks in a residence is punishable by law. This can lead to an enforcement order or even closure of the residence. Therefore, the police and municipality urgently appeal to parents and guardians to talk with their children and prevent recurrence. A criminal conviction can lead to a criminal record, which may affect the youths future.
Report Nuisance and Storage
If you know where illegal fireworks are stored or who deals in (heavy) illegal fireworks, report it via 0900-8844 or anonymously via Report Crime Anonymously (Meld Misdaad Anoniem - MMA) at 0800-7000.
