So far, 45 delegations have been escorted from hotels to the World Forum, and most have now returned home. The escort of partners of the participants at the NATO summit - who had a program in Rotterdam - also proceeded without significant incidents.
Preventing a Blockade on the A12
Extinction Rebellion attempted to block the A12 on Wednesday afternoon. Police were able to push back the demonstrators. Ten activists were arrested for failing to comply with an order or summons. The demonstrators were transported by bus to the ADO stadium. Several groups of people walked along various routes towards the A12 at the beginning of the afternoon. Later, activists partially blocked the Bezuidenhoutseweg, near the House of Representatives. After they ignored a summons, they were also arrested. At various locations in the center of The Hague, there were also some small-scale demonstrations. The protesters were repeatedly ordered to leave. Ultimately, about 200 people were arrested for violating the Public Manifestations Act.
Capacity in the Rest of the Netherlands
The significant effort for the NATO summit also impacts the rest of the Netherlands. As previously stated, we guarantee basic police care and emergency assistance in all units.
Connections
Telecom provider Odido experienced an outage on Wednesday afternoon, and some service phones of officers were also affected. However, internal communication was not compromised, as officers could reach each other via radios. Emergency number 112 and the general police number 0900 8844 remained accessible. The outage at Odido has now been resolved.
During this extensive security operation, much has been asked of connections such as the C2000 communication system. Despite the heavy load, the connections are holding up well.
