During the control in Schiedam South/West by the undermining intervention team Schiedam, police, and the Alien Police, Identification and Human Trafficking (AVIM), five buildings were inspected and several violations were detected. A knife was found behind the counter in one building and seized. In another location, a building designated for commercial use was used as living space. This has been taken up for further investigation by the municipality. A coffee shop was also checked. Everything was in order there. Finally, a white label ATM (an ATM not linked to a specific bank) was inspected. Questions arose about the construction. Subsequently, the accounting was seized for verification.
Many fines and six arrests
The police checked over 250 vehicles. 134 drivers received a report for violating the speed limit. 69 fines were issued for minor traffic violations, such as holding a phone. A moped was also seized after the driver was caught riding without a license for the third time, and officers arrested one person for showing a false identity document. Furthermore, during the controls, two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and three drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Tax Authority was also present during the control. Four motor vehicles were seized, and a total of 27,660.50 euros in outstanding tax debts was collected.
Integral controls are regularly carried out in the municipality of Schiedam. The municipality, police, and Tax Authority work together in this regard. The controls aim to detect irregularities and thus increase safety for residents and entrepreneurs. Through these controls, the police also aim to contribute to traffic safety.
