In total, the police are keeping an extra eye on 770 people. These individuals will receive a letter about this. They:
- live in the North Holland unit
- are 16 years or older
- have committed four or more traffic violations in a year.
Of these 770 people, 130 were also monitored last year. Therefore, they will not receive the letter by mail, but the police will deliver it in person.
Every traffic violation counts
Every traffic violation for which you were stopped and fined by the police counts. Think of:
- speeding
- holding a phone while cycling or driving
- cycling without lights.
Discussing behavior in traffic at home
The letter states that the police will keep a closer watch on you for a year across the Netherlands. For traffic violations, you will no longer receive a warning but will be fined immediately. The police can also send a notification to the CBR. This could mean you are required to take a course at your own expense. If you do not take this course, your drivers license will be declared invalid. By receiving the letter at home, the police want partners, parents, and children to discuss behavior in traffic.
This action is a collaboration between the police and the Public Prosecution Service.
