At the beginning of the evening, around six oclock, two men drove away from a parking lot on Arnold Janssenlaan. The parking lot was at an apartment complex where many elderly people live. The two men had just scammed and robbed a resident of the complex. They thought they had left just in time, but suddenly the police arrived.
Excuses
The police were called by a very alert other resident of the building. The men had already rung her doorbell twice with an excuse that they were delivering food. The woman did not trust it and called, besides the police, also the managers of the complex. She provided the description of the two.
Because this alert lady did not open the door, the two men decided to try their luck elsewhere. They rang the bell again. This time the excuse was that there was a serious leak at the upstairs neighbors of the later victim and that quick action needed to be taken to minimize the damage. The victim opened the door and wanted to take a closer look at the card that one of the men showed. She could not do that because the man pushed the victim aside and walked in.
Jewelry Gone
The victim followed him, and in the meantime, the other man presumably managed to get into her bedroom and take several pieces of jewelry. After that, the two men left the womans home and the apartment complex. They got into their car and drove away when two police cars arrived. Since the officers had also received the description of the men, one of the cars decided to follow the car of the two men.
Nervous
The car with the two suspects in it received a stop signal, but the driver did not respond. At Hoeveneind in Teteringen, he decided to choose eggs for his money and stop. The driver immediately walked towards the police vehicle. Shaking with nerves, the man showed a photo of his drivers license. He turned out to be 40 years old and not registered anywhere in the Netherlands. The passenger was a 59-year-old man from Maassluis. Since the men were suspected of robbing the elderly woman, they were arrested and taken to a police detention complex. They are detained and still in custody. Investigations revealed that the two men had been arrested before for similar offenses.
The missing jewelry has not yet been recovered. The police have seized the suspects car. Some silverware and an expensive watch were also confiscated from the men. It is being investigated whether these goods also come from theft.
