The man was arrested on Monday after he made a pin transaction with a card he had slyly obtained.

Securing Money
The 23-year-old pretended to be Detective De Wit. Investigations reveal that he had contacted seven other people by phone yesterday before he finally caught a 32-year-old victim. He called the victim and said there was a wave of burglaries. He indicated that he wanted to secure money and the pin card. In this way, he managed to steal a large sum of money and the pin card. The victim eventually did not trust the situation and called the police. Through a pin transaction with the stolen card, the police spotted the fake officer on Hertogenlaan. He could ultimately be arrested here.

The suspect is in custody for further questioning.

Dont fall for it!
Anyone can become a victim. As police, we receive multiple reports daily of so-called fake officers who are out to defraud people. We emphasize that a real officer never calls or comes to your door to secure valuables or money. Hang up immediately if you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the police asking about your valuables. Call the police yourself at 0900-8844 to verify if you have really been called by a police officer. If an officer comes to your door to collect valuables or money, call 112.

How to recognize a real officer?
We know that there are fraudsters who wear police clothing. They may only wear a police polo. A real officer wears their uniform fully: with pants, high work shoes, and a belt with weapons and handcuffs. A real police officer can always identify themselves with a police identification badge. This is a card in the form of a drivers license with a name, personnel number, and photo. Plainclothes police officers must show this themselves, and they give you all the time to examine the evidence carefully.

Always report and/or file a complaint!
Again: if you dont trust it, call the police and dont hesitate to close the door and not let anyone in! If an attempt of fraud has been made against you or you have been defrauded, always report and/or file a complaint, as this gives us the opportunity to connect cases.
