The investigation by the police and the Public Prosecution Service in Northern Netherlands focuses on a criminal network, where a large part of the arrested suspects adheres to anti-institutional ideology and may have the intent to use violence.
The suspects have been arrested at various locations in the Netherlands. They include a 66-year-old man and a 62-year-old man from the municipality of Leeuwarden, a 61-year-old man from the municipality of Waadhoeke, a 39-year-old man from the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, a 40-year-old woman from the municipality of Ommen, a 74-year-old from the municipality of Gilze and Rijen, a 55-year-old man from the municipality of Den Bosch, and a 47-year-old man from the municipality of Waddinxveen. They have been arrested and taken to police stations.
Searches at various locations
In addition to the arrests, searches have taken place at various locations in the Netherlands. The police have conducted investigations in various buildings in and around Leeuwarden, the municipality of Waadhoeke, the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, Heerenveen, the municipality of Vijfheerenland, near Ommen, Gilze and Rijen, and Den Bosch.
Among other things, weapons and ammunition, narcotics, possible explosives, and potentially dangerous substances were found and seized. The police also took digital data carriers. These will be further investigated.
Investigation continues
With these actions and arrests, the investigation is not yet complete. More arrests cannot be ruled out. The arrested suspects are under full restrictions, which means we are cautious in sharing further information.
