Two officers from the mounted police of the National Expertise and Operations Unit were on patrol in the center of s-Hertogenbosch. A man shouted insulting words at the officers as he passed by, prompting the officers to confront him about his behavior. The man walked away, got into a car, and drove into the horses and officers. As a result, the horses and riders were lightly injured, and one of the riders fell from his horse.
The man fled the scene but was later apprehended by officers from the East Brabant Unit. He is a 50-year-old man from the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel. He is in custody on suspicion of attempted manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence, and insulting an officer. His car was seized.
The officers terminated their shift, and the horses were examined by a veterinarian.
