International Cooperation
Authorities from Germany, France, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, the United States, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, with support from Europol and Eurojust, collaborated and simultaneously acted against the infrastructure and individuals from the DDoS group. This led to the offline removal of a network consisting of more than a hundred computer systems worldwide, including the central server infrastructure used by the group.
In other countries, local authorities conducted 24 searches, resulting in two suspects being arrested by France and Spain. Additionally, about 1000 supporters of the group were contacted, and Germany, Spain, and France issued arrest warrants for eight individuals.
The Netherlands
The Dutch police and Public Prosecution Service contributed to this international investigation. Cyber specialists from the police, in collaboration with international partners, managed to dismantle various systems and servers of the infrastructure on which NoName057(16) was active.
The DDoS group NoName057(16) and its supporters have repeatedly carried out cyberattacks on Dutch websites. Targets of DDoS attacks included companies and agencies in both the public and private sectors. For example, several attacks were conducted during the recent NATO summit.
NoName057(16)
The group NoName057(16) is a so-called hacktivist group that has publicly expressed support for the Russian government and the war against Ukraine. In this context, the group has carried out various DDoS attacks. For instance, towards Ukraine, but also other countries, mainly NATO alliance members, have been targeted by such attacks.
