On the parking lot designated for visiting supporters, several vehicles with Belgian license plates appeared that evening. The occupants stood out because of their clothing and behavior. They were asked for their exit pass and match ticket, as a mandatory transport arrangement applies for access to the visitors section. None of those involved complied with this transport requirement.

When stewards and security staff asked additional questions, some individuals pulled hats and hoods over their heads and began shouting. Given previous experiences where the presence of similar groups led to disturbances, security decided to deny these individuals access to the stadium.

Deployment of the Riot Police
To prevent possible public order disturbances, the police contained the group with the deployment of the Riot Police on the parking lot. Subsequently, 23 people were arrested under the General Local Regulation for unnecessary pushing or causing a risk of disturbances through provocative behavior. All were taken to the police station.

These are mainly young Belgian men, supporters of football club Beveren, who are friends with part of the FC Emmen supporters. All suspects were released well after the match following statements and receipt of a transaction.
