Around 03:00 hours, patrolling officers see two individuals dressed in dark clothing with face-covering garments and (orange) work gloves near a glasses store on Van Baerlestraat in Amsterdam South. Upon seeing the police, the duo immediately flees on a scooter towards Roelof Hartstraat. The driver of the scooter also ignores the officers stop signal and speeds off via Balthasar Floriszstraat and Eerste Jan Steenstraat. Shortly after, the first suspect, a 20-year-old Amsterdammer, can be apprehended on Jacob Obrechtplein.
Service Dog Thies
A search for the second suspect is then conducted by officers and service dog Thies in the fenced garden area around Joh. M. Coenenstraat. Thies quickly picks up a trail, which soon leads to the second suspect, a 13-year-old Amsterdammer. Both suspects are detained for further investigation. The duo is suspected of attempted theft in association in a business, public violence against property, and handling the stolen scooter.
