Near Mia van IJperenplein, a woman briefly left her car around half past five on Friday afternoon to visit a store. Her passenger was waiting in the car in the passenger seat. While the woman was in the store, a man entered the car in the drivers seat and drove off with it. A struggle ensued inside the car between the suspect and the man in the passenger seat. The car mounted the sidewalk and came to a stop against a storefront. No one was injured.

Bystanders rushed to help subdue the suspect and hold him until police could arrest him. The suspect is a 34-year-old Rotterdam man with a history of erratic behavior, of which the police had previously received reports.
