Police officers received a report of a possible threat at a campsite in Barchem. The suspects were said to have fled on a scooter. When officers found the scooter with the men in Zwiep, the duo turned against the officers. The police were assaulted during this incident. Ultimately, the two suspects were arrested with the help of alert bystanders and the use of a stun gun. Both officers sustained injuries.

Unacceptable

‘Violence against police officers is unacceptable. These men used a lot of violence after they were simply asked for an ID due to the incident in Barchem. That is unprecedented,’ said team leader Cor Moojen of the IJsselstreek basic team, which includes the municipalities of Zutphen, Lochem, and Voorst.

Possibly Under the Influence as Well

The driver of the scooter – the 21-year-old man from Rijssen – was possibly also under the influence of narcotics, as indicated by a positive preliminary drug test. Both suspects are currently still in custody for further investigation.
