Doorbell rings
The doorbell rings. The impersonator stands at the door. The real officers take action and the man is arrested. He is a minor from Chaam. The impersonator was taken to the police station for further investigation.
Is it an impersonator or legitimate? Check via 112!
The police will never ask you to hand over your valuables, bank card/PIN code, or important personal documents as a precaution.
What to do if you receive a call from a ‘fake officer’ or ‘bank employee’?
If you receive such a call, you can take the following actions:
- Hang up immediately if someone claims to be from the police or a bank. Verify the story if asked to set aside jewelry or a bank card.
- Call the police at 0900 - 8844 to verify if you were really contacted by an officer. In the case of a ‘bank employee’, hang up and call your bank directly to verify;
- If you have already given information (such as an address), do not let anyone in if someone comes to your door:
- Do not open the door to anyone claiming to be from the police, even if they say they are from your bank. Always ask for police identification and badge number, and call the police at 112 to verify the number. For ‘bank employees’, also ask for identification;
- A real police officer can always show a valid police ID card. This card shows the name, badge number, and a photo. It is made of polycarbonate, like a driver’s license, and includes multiple visible and invisible security features to prevent forgery. See an example here. Plainclothes officers must always voluntarily show their police ID.
