The police had earlier started an investigation into a violent robbery on December 29, 2025. A man was reportedly robbed of his fireworks under threat of a weapon. The victim was injured in the incident. This happened around 8:00 PM near Wittesteeweg in Kruiningen. The suspect allegedly fled in a gray-colored car. On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the police arrested an 18-year-old man from Nieuw-Tonge on suspicion of theft with violence.

Heavy fireworks found

Prior to the robbery report, the police received another report. On that Monday evening, a damaged gray-colored car was seen on the side of the road. The witness stopped to ask if everything was alright. The people near the vehicle were not receptive, and the witness was asked to leave. The witness left but reported the incident to the police.

The police went to the scene but found no one near the vehicle. However, officers found a plastic bag on the back seat filled with fireworks. The vehicle was removed by a tow truck, and the fireworks were seized and will be destroyed. The police are investigating whether these two reports are connected.
