After releasing CCTV footage of the assault on an 82-year-old woman at Ganzenhoef metro station, the police received multiple tips. Following these tips, a 57-year-old man from Amsterdam-West was stopped on Tuesday, October 28. On the street, he admitted involvement in the assault on the 82-year-old woman. He was subsequently arrested by the police.

Last week, we shared footage of the incident. The footage shows the victim planning to take the metro towards Amsterdam city center. However, her plans are abruptly disrupted around 12:20 PM when she tries to check in at Ganzenhoef metro station. She senses someone trying to slip through the gate behind her. She tries to prevent this by stopping. She then receives a push in her back. She pushes back but is pushed hard forward. Then the woman receives a hard punch to her ear, just below her temple. Afterwards, she is struck again on her sternum. The suspect flees via the escalator. The victim is left behind and calls for help. Unfortunately, no one nearby is able to assist. The victim decides to take the metro to the city center anyway. At Central Station, she asks a GVB employee for help but then loses consciousness.
